InternetGhana,
your Enterprise Solutions Provider, as part of its
10th Anniversary celebrations hosted its corporate
clients to a colourful cocktail party at the Golden
Tulip on the 24th of July 2006. In attendance were
the Chairman and members of the Board, Management
and members of staff of InternetGhana, Corporate
Heads, MD of ZTE, China (Technology partners of
InternetGhana), MPs, Traditional leaders, members
of the Media fraternity and many more distinguished
personalities.
The
Special Guest of Honour was the Minister of Communications,
Hon. Prof. Mike Ocquaye. The MC for the occasion
was the Grand master, Mr. Godwin Avenorgbor. In
a speech by the Hon. Minister, he said since his
appointment as the Minister of Communications, InternetGhana
was the first company he had come in contact with
and was therefore very happy to be part of the program.
He announced that the government of Ghana has secured
a loan of $40 million from the Chinese government
to expand telecommunication in Ghana. He noted that
with the modest contribution of InternetGhana and
the private sector, the country would be able to
achieve its set targets, adding, ‘’We
will provide the necessary encouragement to ensure
the realization of the company’s vision to
become a regional provider of digital connectivity.’’
InternetGhana
rewarded two categories of customers: the oldest
individual clients and winners of the month long
Joy-Fm promotions. Each of the winners walked away
with a brand new laptop computer.
In
his address the Chief Executive Officer of InternetGhana,
Mr. Leslie Tamakloe expressed his gratitude to the
loyal customers of InternetGhana for giving InternetGhana
the opportunity to serve for the past decade. He
cataloged the series of events that characterized
the birth of InternetGhana. He recalled a flood
in 1995 which swept everything away leading to the
collapse of his earlier company, Electromod Co.
Ltd. His circumstance could be likened to the biblical
Noah who reconstructed and rebuilt everything that
there is today in the world after surviving the
great flood of ancient times. Ten years after the
flood, InternetGhana today is not only the pioneer
in the ISP (Internet Service Provider) Industry
but is the largest privately owned and Ghanaian
managed ISP in the country.
Mr.
Leslie Tamakloe concluded his speech by rededicating
the resources of InternetGhana of a better service
to clients in the years to come. He added that InternetGhana
had submitted an application to the National Communications
Authority (NCA) as part of the qualification process
for the granting of fixed wireless voice licence
for the Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper
West regions.
The Chairman in his address urged InternetGhana
to venture into greater markets even outside Ghana.
He stressed the importance of the Internet in today's
global village. He advised the management and staff
not to be complacent but strife to give better service.
Dr. Emmanuel Abloh, who chaired the function, called
on African countries to take advantage of the IT
revolution to provide employment for their people.
The
gathering was entertained to good salsa music and
dance by the Salsa Caliente group and a live band
performance by the Takashi band.
There was abundance of everything to drink and to
“chop”. Members of staff of InternetGhana
and other dignitaries danced themselves away into
the night.
